Learning how to become you own researcher and seeking out information that will help you in your life as a football player is important, and you can learn how right here on NFLHS.com. This article focuses on a number of articles and areas that will provide you with information that you can use immediately.
Many of you are here to learn how begin your high school football career. I receive numerous questions each month about what position you should go out for on the team.
One place to start for an answer to this question is right here on NFLHS.com. Look on the "Getting Started" page under "Tips & Drills," which contains valuable information, including an article concerning "What Position Should I Play." This column should provide you with information you need and will give you an idea of which position may be right for you. Read it over, and then let me know if you still have questions.
It is important for you to understand that your coaches will be in the best position to evaluate where you might have the most success on the team. Football is a team sport, and no position is more important than any other. All you have to do is ask any successful quarterback or running back what contributes the most to their success. The first answer you will hear is their offensive line.
Some fans may look at the two popular positions on offense, but football players and coaches know that it takes all 11 players to have success, and without the players who may not get the most publicity, the offense cannot move the ball and score.
The most important thing to remember is that you want to play a position where you have the greatest opportunity to be on the field during the game and that you are in a position where you can most contribute to the team's success. Check out the column, listen to your coaches, get into good shape and go out and enjoy the game.
You may also like to read the column titled "First Time Players - What to Expect" and get a view of what it was like for me and what it will be like for you the first time you walk out on a practice field to start your football careers.
Also two articles that will be of interest to many of you are "Getting Bigger" and "Getting Faster."
If you click on the "Position Index" link, also located on the left sidebar, you will find every position on the team listed and numerous articles concerning the drills and skills that you can begin to do to improve your ability at that position. Take a few minutes each day and read one or two of the articles that pertain to your position, and then try to learn the technique to improve your performance.
All of this information is here for you to use and to really help you become a better player and enjoy your time as a football player during practice and in the game. Learn as much as you can and start to become a player who really understands the game by reading everything you can.
Good luck to each of you, Coach Tom Bass.
